Thursday 15th February saw us meeting in the Porthmadog Yacht club, we had 8 members present with apologises from 2 others. The evening went well with various topics of conversation, the main topic was the construction competition.
P.A.D.A.R.S had their first construction competition on Thursday night 15th February. There were four entries to the competition, two kits and two homemade builds. The two kits were by father and son.
Our Web Administrator and young amateur, Thomas (MW6NKF) built a Medium Wave valve receiver .
His father, Tony (GW7KNF) built a Air Band Receiver.
Our Chairman Dafydd (MW0CHZ) built a morse key, it was made from 2 old feeler gauges and three pieces of wood mounted on a wooden block and two nuts and bolts.
Our events secretary, Peter (GW0DFK) built a shack helper a flat piece of wood with bendy arms and crock clips.
The winner was Tony (GW7KNF), followed by a close second by Thomas (MW6NKF). the judging was done by Bernard (GW0HGC) who said the soldering was immaculate. This will now become a yearly competition and local clubs/societies are warmly invited to come along and take part, details will appear on this website and also on our Facebook page. You are welcome to visit us at our monthly meetings in the yacht club Porthmadog on the third Thursday of each month except for August when we do not meet.
A surplus equipment sale will take place on Thursday 15th March, we also discussed the 2018 calendar and I wish to bring your attention to this, all meetings will take place in the usual venue 19.30 for 20.00 hrs. Start. We started are new style raffle, you buy as many tickets as you wish for £1 each, hold on to your ticket until December where the yearly draw will take place, we hope to give a suitable amateur radio related prize to the winner.
We invite all amateurs members or none members and anyone looking into the hobby with a prospect of obtaining a license to visit us on any of the monthly meetings, we have three members who are registered with the Radio Society of Great Britain as tutors for the Foundation and intermediate license courses.
